As you’re getting ready for the new school year, The New York Public Library is here to support you with a wide range of fun learning resources, activities, and—of course—books. Sign up for the NYPL Kids newsletter for all the latest updates on back-to-school resources and more.
Your library card gives you free online access to an array of different learning resources. For curious young minds, you might want to try BookFlix, which pairs fiction with nonfiction titles. If you need to brush up on your math skills, check out TumbleMath. For other homework help, for grades K–12, you can access virtual one-on-one support in English and Spanish through Brainfuse. Discover more online resources through the Library.
Decorate your notebooks, make a giant popsicle pencil, and design your own paper mask portraits with this list of craft activities compiled by our children's librarians and staff.
The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators and Schools is a new initiative devoted to making all of the Library’s resources accessible and useful for educators. Here you’ll find programs and services tailored for the educator community, such as book lists, credit-bearing workshops, special access to exhibitions, tips on teaching with primary source materials from our vast research collections, and much more. From class visits to educator programs, find out how the Library can help and visit our website.
Although many of our resources are available to everyone online, some of them require you to have a library card to access them. If you don't already have one, you can get one for free online through the Library's free e-reader app, SimplyE. This will also give you access to hundreds of thousands of e-books and audiobooks.
Take a look at our recommendations—whether you’re a student or an educator, there’s something for every age! The Library also has expert staff who can provide you with book recommendations at one of our locations.
If you know which book you’re looking for, search the catalog to find a list of locations that have the book available now —or simply place the book on hold to pick up at your local branch.
Subscribe to the Center for Educator and School’s newsletter to get monthly updates for educators, including upcoming fellowship opportunities, a podcast, and more.
