With New York City temperatures expected to hover around 100 degrees this weekend, The New York Public Library has decided to open seven additional branches on Sunday, July 21 to help New Yorkers stay cool and safe. 

With the seven  additional branches, The New York Public Library—which serves the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island—will offer service at 14 locations this Sunday; public library locations are considered City cooling centers. 

The additional libraries, which will be open from 1 PM to 5 PM, are: 

• High Bridge Library, Mott Haven Library, Soundview Library, and West Farms Library in the Bronx

• Morningside Heights Library and Harlem Library in Manhattan

• South Beach Library in Staten Island

The Library will also offer planned Sunday service at the following locations on July 21: 

• Bronx Library Center, Melrose Library, Parkchester Library in the Bronx

• 53rd Street Library, Inwood Library, Hudson Park Library in Manhattan

• Todt Hill–Westerleigh Library in Staten Island

Earlier today, transportation service Lyft announced that it is offering 2 free rides (up to $15 each) to New Yorkers heading to select public libraries to stay cool using the code NYCCOOL19, now through Sunday. More information can be found here. At The New York Public Library, rides to the following branches will be free July 18 through July 21:

• Highbridge Library, Bronx Library Center, and Parkchester Library in the Bronx

• Morningside Heights Library, Harlem Library, and Inwood Library Manhattan

• Stapleton Library, Todt Hill–Westerleigh Library, and Mariners Harbor in Staten Island (please note, Mariners Harbor is not open on Sunday)
