Pooh and Friends at the Library!

Since 1987, Pooh and four of his best friends—Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, and Tigger—have been living at The New York Public Library’s flagship Stephen A. Schwarzman building. Now, through the month of August, you can see our Pooh window display when you visit the Library Shop (also located in the Schwarzman building)! Not only does it have beautiful illustrations and quotes from author A.A. Milne, but it also features all the Pooh gear that the Shop sells: plushes, books, and even a tote bag! Read on to find your favorite item…

5.  The inspiration behind it all!

Finding Winnie book cover

Did you know Winnie was inspired by a real bear? In 1914, Harry Colebourn, a veterinarian on his way to tend horses in World War I, rescued a baby bear and named her Winnie (after his hometown of Winnipeg, Canada).

Finding Winnie is the Caldecott Medal-winning true story of their friendship, and their remarkable journey to an army base in England, and finally to the London Zoo, where Winnie made another new friend: a boy named Christopher Robin.
