12/27: The Great Quake: Henry Fountain with Klaus JacobNew York Times journalist Henry Fountain combines the history and science of earthquakes and how it continues to resonate.  6:30 PM, Mid-Manhattan Library at 42nd Street.

1/3: Modern Jewish Cuisine: Award-winning food writers discuss the connections between Jewish food, family, and culture. 6:30 PM, Mid-Manhattan Library at 42nd Street.

1/6: American Encounters: LA Story: Houston Symphony principal cellist Brinton Averil Smith and acclaimed concert pianist Evelyn Chen perform a recital soaked in the suspense, spectacle, and romance of classic Hollywood.  2:30 PM, Library for the Performing Arts.

1/10: Cinematic Overtures: How to Read Opening Scenes: Film Historian  and Columbia University professor Annette Insdorf investigates how opening sequences shape films and explains the effects it can have on an audience. 6:30 PM, Mid-Manhattan Library at 42nd Street.

1/12-13: Schomburg Center 6th Annual Black Comic Book Festival: The annual event will feature panels and discussions on topics including diversity, social justice in comics, black comics in digital spaces and much more. 10 AM, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
