Welcome to our biweekly update on events happening during the next two weeks at The New York Public Library. With 92 locations across New York City, a lot is happening at the Library. We're highlighting some of our events here—including author talks, free classes, community art shows, performances, concerts, and exhibitions—and you can always find more at nypl.org/events. 4/28: The Library After Hours: Walt Whitman and Ecstatic Poetry: Priority access is open for the next Library After Hours, celebrating ecstatic poetry from Rumi to Walt Whitman to spoken word. This month's event includes a one-night-only display of the Library’s collection of rare Whitman books, manuscripts, and images; short films on poets and poetry from the Library's collections; crafts, activities, games, and puzzles; and food and beverage available for purchase. Register now for Priority Access to gain early entry to the event. Priority Access tickets are limited. 7 PM for priority access, 7:30 PM otherwise. Must be 21+ to attend and ID is required. 

4/12: Wealth, Power, and Philanthropy in a New Gilded AgeDavid Callahan discusses the rise of new power players in philanthropy and their increasing impact on social issues and government policy with Alexander Heffner, of PBS's The Open Mind. 6:30 PM.

4/17: Conversations from the Cullman: The Osage Murders: David Grann and Jeffrey Toobin: David Grann talks about his new book, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI , with Jeffrey Toobin. After huge petroleum reserves were discovered on the Osage Indian reservation in Oklahoma in the 1920s, members of the tribe were briefly among the wealthiest people in the world. Then they began to die. Working with new sources and deep research, Grann tells the riveting story of the mystery behind their murders. 7 PM.

4/18: Immigrant Stories: Min Jin Lee in Conversation with Simon WinchesterNovelist Min Jin Lee speaks with New York Times best-selling author Simon Winchester about her latest novel, Pachinko which traces multiple generations of a Korean family living in exile in Japan from the 1930's to the 1980's. 6:30 PM.

4/5: #OneBookNY Culturalists in ConversationThe Schomburg is celebrating "One Book, One New York" selection Americanah  by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie with this conversation moderated by Touré ("BingeWorthy," "Love City") and panelists including Michaela Angela Davis, Larry Ossei-Mensah, Lizz Winstead, and Bayeté Ross. 6:30 PM.

4/6: Conversations in Black Freedom Studies: Black Athletes and the Freedom StruggleA panel of scholars examines the complicated blood brotherhood between Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and Malcolm X, as well as the neglected history of black women champions inlcuding Alice Coachman, Althea Gibson, Wilma Rudolph, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee. 6 PM.

4/6: Atlantic Slaveries: Native American and African Slavery in New England and the CaribbeanThe Lapidus Center presents Linford Fisher on the intertwined histories of Native American and African slaves in the 17th and 18th centuries. 12 PM.

4/17-4/19: Rewind: "Best Of" Film SeriesThe Schomburg Center spotlights the best films from the Blackstar Film Festival, African FIlm Festival, Inc., and Urbanworld FIlm Festival in three vital screenings. 6:30 PM.

4/8: Dance Cuba: Dreams of FlightProduced and directed by Cynthia Newport, this film is a unique expression of Cuban culture, featuring central figures such as Carlos Acosta, Lorna Feijoo, Alicia Alonso and Fernando Alonso. This special screening will be followed by a talkback with Newport and Feijoo, as well as Brian Seibert and Fernando Saez.

4/7: Stage Manager Confessional Part 3: Mobile ManagerMeet Geoff Boronda, stage manager for The Public Theater's Mobile Unit, which has performed high-quality, professional theatre productions in communities across New York. 7 PM.

4/13: An Evening of Operatic DelightsJoin us for a concert of operatic delights, presented by Manhattan Opera Association. 6 PM.

Mid-Manhattan Library

4/12: Revival Type: Paul Shaw, the author of the new book Revival Type: Digital Typefaces, will be joined by type designer Sara Soskolne and graphic designer Tracy Ma for a discussion about type revivals, the practice of creating new versions of old typefaces. 6:30 PM.

4/6: Family Business Series Part 1: Professionalizing Your Family BusinessLearn how to put in place steps that will help you grow your family business, and avoid costly mistakes that can damage professional and family relationships. 6 PM.

4/8: Maximizing Your IRA & 401(k) AccountsYour retirement savings accounts can be the key to your future financial security. Learn about contributions limits, asset allocation basics, taxation and how these accounts operate. 12 PM.

4/12: Healthcare Jobs: What Are They, Where They Are, and How to Get Them: A panel of human resources professionals from the leading New York City hospitals discuss careers in the healthcare industry. Learn how to transfer into this industry from other careers, the skills hiring managers are looking for, and where to find jobs in this field. 6 PM.
