Young Adult Beach Reads

Coney Island, Rockaway Beach, Jersey Shore… summer is all about the beach! And no beach bag is complete without a beach read. For me, beach reads are not a defined genre, but rather a loose collection of types of books that are perfect for sitting out by the pool or while spread out on a beach towel. My beach reads include books in tropical/beachy locations, books that take place in the summer, romances, and gripping genre books like fantasy, sci fi, and thrillers, where I can get totally immersed in the story.

These are some great reads:

Summer, Vacations, and Islands

We were Liars
This One Summer
Carnival at Bray
Square Root of Summer

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This One Summer by Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki
The Carnival at Bray by Jessie Ann Foley

Love and Romance

We Should Hang Out Sometime
Tell Me Again
An Abundance of Katherines
Romiette and Julio

We Should Hang Out Sometime by Josh Sundquist
Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan
An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Get Lost in a Story

Uglies
A Court of Thorns and Roses
Nimona
All the Truth

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Pack your beach bag with one of these reads and don’t forget the sunscreen!

two novels

In terms of young adult "beach reads", I recommend these two novels: "Returning to Shore" by Corinne Demas and "Prisoner of Night and Fog" by Anne Blankman. The first is a short novel about family drama. Despite its somewhat slow pace, it's an enjoyable and leisurely read. The second is a historical fiction novel that takes place in 1930's Germany. It is also the first in a trilogy, so if you really enjoy it, you can read the sequel.
