Booktalking "If I Was Your Girl" by Meredith Russo
Andrew Hardy awakens in a hospital bed in the aftermath of his suicide attempt. He informs the staff that he has always felt like a girl and he wants to start living life that way. If being a boy caused him to want to die, perhaps there is a different reality in store for him. Andrew transitions to Amanda, with the help of some supplemental hormones.
Amanda discovers a bunch of girlfriends that love hanging out with her: Bee, Chloe, Layla, and Anna. She also begins to fall head over heels in love with Grant, a boy who seems to understand her. However, she lives in fear that Grant will refuse to accept her trans status if she reveals it to him. In any case, one advantage of being a girl is that boys no longer seem inclined to use their fists on her in order to resolve their issues. Girls have a different way of dealing with each other; they use words as weapons instead.

I love reading books about transgender people. This one was particularly endearing.
