THE MARTIAN is hard SF set in the near future on Mars. ANNIHILATION is fantasy/horror set on Earth. Likewise, THE STRAIN is about vampires. Really plausible. LOCK IN is about virtual reality. Why not recommend RED MARS by Kim Stanley Robinson?
