2014 Financial Planning Day at SIBL - A Big Success!

Financial Planning Day 2014 On October 17, 2014 hundreds of people came to SIBL for classes, database presentations, counseling, coaching and to talk to Financial Fair Participants during our 2014 Financial Planning Day.

A total of twelve classes were offered, three concurrent ones during each of four sessions (11:15, 1, 2:45, and 4:15). Most classrooms were packed.

William Wu, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional at Kramer Financial Group, discussed Asset Allocation, including the characteristics of each asset class and how to use each of them in an investment portfolio. Participants learned the concept of correlation and its impact on overall portfolio risk and gained a better understanding of how to design and construct a portfolio.

Stacey Pramer, a volunteer attorney with the Cancer Advocacy and Elderlaw Projects of the City Bar Justice Center, provided an introduction to life-planning documents, including wills, health care proxies, living wills and powers of attorney.

Databases presented by our staff included: Bloomberg, Morningstar Library Edition, Mergent Online (one of four Mergent databases that SIBL users have access to), Standard and Poor's Net Advantage, and Career Cruising. All of these databses are available at SIBL (some also at other NYPL locations).

From 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. private 30-minute coaching and counseling sessions took place.
