Kristin Cashore’s debut novel is entitled Graceling and was published in 2008. The sequel to Graceling is entitled Bitterblue and was released in 2012. Graceling is set in the seven kingdoms, a land where people who are born with magical powers are called “Gracelings.” A Graceling is easy to spot because they are born with mismatched eye colors. Gracelings are often feared and become property of the king who exploits their powers.

Our tale centers on the Lady Katsa, the niece of the Middluns' king. Katsa is a graced killer. Katsa does not like to be used as a killer by her uncle so she forms and organizations she calls The Council, to help people around the kingdom. As part of The Council, Katsa learns the true nature of her powers and how to put them to positive use.

Katsa soon meets Prince Po, and together they embark on a journey that changes them and the future of their kingdoms forever.

Fire was released in 2009 and is a companion novel to Graceling. The rights to the Graceling movie have been sold. We can expect Graceling to be the next amazing YA book to film adaptation.
