Booktalking "Over in Australia" by Marianne Berkes
"Over in Australia" is a charming, poetic song that teaches kids about counting and Australian animals. Each gorgeous and decorative page is devoted to a different Australian mammal. Crocodiles, kangaroos, koalas, platypuses, rainbow lorikeet birds, wombats, sugar gliders (squirrel-like animals), brolgas (stork-like birds), bilbies (marsupials), and emus strut their stuff in wonderful collage art. A map of Australia shows where each mammal depicted in the book lives in that country. Further information about Australian animals in the song and others is provided at the end of the book.

The illustrations appear to be papier mâché. I once knew a guy who kept a sugar glider in his house as a pet, although it is not recommended to keep them as pets.
