Free Programs at New Dorp Library: April 2014
Spring is in the air! I know this because my nose reminds me all day long! But you know what really takes away the sinus pressure? A trip to my local library! Visit and join one of these great programs that will make you forget about all that pollen!
Sit in on a free family movie or write some wonderful poems for poetry month! Teen Club is a great place to whip out your Magic, Yu-gi-oh!, or Pokemon Deck! Adults can take an exercise class to prep for the beach, or relax in the book club with a new interesting book!
Show those allergies who's the boss, and get out and have some fun at New Dorp Library!
Picture Book Time/Reading Aloud
For ages 3 years and up.
Enjoy hearing books read aloud, finger plays, action rhymes and coloring.

For ages 1.5 – 2.5 years and caregiver

Bring your toddler to an interactive program featuring books, finger rhymes and songs.

For ages birth through 17 months and their caregiver.
Friday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m.
Bring your baby to an interactive program featuring simple books, songs and gentle movement.
For ages 2 ½ to 5 years and their caregiver.
Tuesday, April 15, at 3:30 p.m.
Enjoy books, finger plays, action rhymes, and simple craft.
Free - Family Movies!
Free family movies will be shown on Saturdays, at 2 p.m.
April 12 “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Turtles”,
April 19 “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules”, and April 26 “The Incredibles”.
Children may take home a free coloring sheet of the movie character.
“Poetry Writing Workshop for Kids”
For ages 6 to 12 years. Thursday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
April is poetry month! Hear some poems from our collection, and write your own.
“Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros” – “Children’s Day/Book Day”
For ages 4 years and up. Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m.
Celebrate children and books! Enjoy stories, puppet show, craft, piñata and more!
Preregistration is required and will start one week before on April 23.
Free Math & Reading Tutoring
Free math tutoring for children Pre-K to 8th grade, and reading tutoring for children Pre-K to 3rd grade.
Presented by Staten Island Technical volunteers and Stuyvesant High School volunteers. Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., & Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., & 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Space is limited. Register in person the day of the tutoring. Registration starts when we open the branch that day.
Teen Café Remixed

Come join us for fun in the community room. Play your favorite games on the PS3 and the Wii. Come hang out with your friends! You can bring your snacks, soda, coffee, homework, iPod. Check out a laptop and browse the internet! For ages 12-18.

2 – 4 p.m. Your two favorite programs – Teen Art & Anime Club have combined !! Talk Anime and Draw Manga or Talk Manga and don’t draw Anime. It’s up to you. For ages 12 to 18.
Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

Join our Teen Advisory Group and get hands on experience volunteering for the Library.
Earn Community Service hours by attending our monthly meetings and giving us your input! What's happening in your world? What’s the hottest book, movie, or cd right now? What programs does the library need? This is a great way to meet new friends and really get involved in what goes on here at the New Dorp Library. For ages 12-18.
Mouse & Keyboarding Basics

Knitting and Crochet Club

Participants must supply their own yarn, needles, and hooks.
