Free Programs at New Dorp Library: February 2013


With loving greetings., Digital ID 1588464, New York Public LibraryHere's February, and you already knew it was coming — not because of your calendar, but because of all the red and pink Valentine's Day things you've been seeing in all the stores! Why don't you make New Dorp Library your Valentine this year? Curl up with a book in one of our comfy chairs or take a movie home to enjoy a night in. Feeling active? Spend some time with the ones you love and attend one of our programs! We've got a little something for everyone!

We won't send you flowers or candy, but we will fill your arms with free books, movies, and programs!

Our two special programs this month are:

For Children a special event hosted by Bob-a-Loo!
Stories with Bob-a-Loo and his flute and drums. Recommended for children ages 5 to 12 years old. Thursday February 28th at 4 p.m.!

For Adults a new program! Come join in on the first Adult Knitting and Crochet Club!Join us for our knitting and crochet club where beginners can learn basic stitches, others can refine their skills, and advanced stitchers can share their knowledge and their projects. Please bring yarn, needles, small scissors, and the pattern you want to work on.
Saturday, February 2nd and 6th 2013, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

For Children:

Valentine’s Day Craft
For ages 6 to 12 years
Make a Valentine’s Day craft to keep, or give as a gift.
Thursday, February 14, at 4:00 p.m.
Preregistration required starting one week before.

Free Math & Reading Tutoring
Math tutoring: for children Pre-K to 8th grade
Reading tutoring: for children Pre-K to 3rd grade
Presented by Staten Island Technical volunteers and Stuyvesant High School volunteers
Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Picture Book Time
For ages 3 and up
Enjoy hearing books read aloud, finger plays, action rhymes and coloring.
Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. February 6, 13, 20, 27
No preregistration is needed.

Toddler Rhyme Time
For ages 18–30 months and caregiver
Bring your toddler to an interactive program featuring books, rhymes, and songs.
Friday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m.
Preregistration is required and will start 1 week before.

Family Movies
Free family movies for all ages. Both shown on a Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.
Showing Pokemon White on 2/9 and Disney’s The Aristocats on 2/16

For Teens:

Teen Café Remixed
February - 2/4, 2/11, 2/25
2:00–4:00 p.m.
Come join us for fun in the community room. Play your favorite games on the PS3 and the Wii. Come hang out with yourfriends! You can bring your snacks, soda, coffee, homework, iPod. Check out a laptop and browse the internet! For ages 12-18.

Teen Club
February - 2/6, 2/27
2:00–4:00 p.m.
Your two favorite programs — Teen Art & Anime Club have combined! Talk Anime and Draw Manga or Talk Manga and don’t draw Anime. It’s up to you. For ages 12 to 18.

Friday Afternoon Social at the Library
Come with your friends and enjoy listening to oldies music, playing board games and American Mah Jongg and meeting new friends. For ages 40+.

Stay Well Exercise Program
Tuesdays, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
The Stay Well exercise program is geared for all seniors, ranging from the fit to those with disabilities. The curriculum includes aerobic exercises as well as routines designed to enhance balance, build muscle strength and aid in the performance of the tasks associated with daily living. Classes end with stress reduction exercises. Classes normally run 40-50 minutes and are held once a week.
