Interviews

My Library, Anime Addicts Edition: Shanta

Are you ready for another edition of Anime Addicts? It's a new month, so we had a new anime screening: this time it was all about Kaleido Star — the story of Sora Naegino, a young girl who dreams of joining the circus.

All of our regulars were in attendance, including Anthony, Matt, Erin, and Bobby. For the month of August, we were joined be a new anime fan who spent her day off coming all the way from the Bronx to watch anime with us. Let's meet her now!

NYPL: What is your name?

Shanta

What is your age?

26

Where do you work? Do you go to school? Where?

I work at Mid-Manhattan Library and I attend Monroe College in the Bronx.

How did you hear about the Anime Night monthly film series?

I've seen the flyers around and, obviously, I work here.

What are a few of your favorite anime titles?

Blue Exorcist, Hellsing, and Ghost Stories.

Do you read manga, too?

Yes. I like Cirque Du Freak and Alice in the Country of Hearts.

What is it about manga and anime that you like so much?

The different storylines, the drawings. I love Japanese culture and have always loved animation [since I] was a kid. So it carried over as I became an adult.

Any closing thoughts?

I'll be returning for next month's anime! ^_^

With over 20 people joining us last night, Anime Night has become one of the hottest NYPL at Nite programs at the Library! Shanta and our regulars will be joining us this fall as we screen Disgaea in SeptemberLast Exile in OctoberChobits in November, and Samurai Champloo in December. We hope that you can join us, too!

There are soooooo much more

There are soooooo much more things that I like that I hadn't been able to write in the space given. But I can definitely write them here. As far as animes go XXX Holic, Golgo13, Soul Eater, Black Butler, Case Closed (Detective Conan) and the list goes on. As for manga Ikigami, Ai Yori Aoshi, Gakuen Prince, Love Hina, Negima, GTO has become a new favorite, Lady Snow Blood, Toriko, Dance in the Vampire Bund is also a new favorite and Scott Pilgrim (also the movie was great)

Great list of manga!

I'm looking to attend of these anime screenings one of these days!
