Free Programs at New Dorp Library: June 2011


June is a hot month and not just because of the sun! Programs for all ages at New Dorp Library are ba-ba-booming!

Summer Reading is right around the corner along with visits from Scruff Mcgruff, the crime dog and the Ohio Indie-punk-emo band The Ground is Lava. We also have the birth of brand new Programs like the Teen Club and Teen Tech Time! Come see what we have going on this month, there's something for everyone!

Check out these rockin' highlights for this month:

For Children:

The Summer Reading Kick off program is on June 9th at 3:30pm for children preschool through age 12. Register for the Summer Reading Program, and read whatever you want. Earn incentives and prizes throughout the summer! June 30th at 2pm we'll be visited by everyone's favorite pup Scruff from the Mcgruff Crime prevention program! The McGruff Program is a child crime prevention program utilizing the nationally recognized McGruff character to reinforce a Crime Prevention message. For ages 3 and up. Pregistration is required starting June 23rd.

Love hearing bedtime stories or watching movies in your PJs? Well then you'll love this program! On June 23rd at 5pm wear your pajamas to the library at the Bedtime Stories and Movies, in Pajamas program! Join the children's librarian as we share stories, rhymes, songs and movies. For ages 4 and up, no registration needed.

For Teens:

Are you a gamer? Love to surf the web? You should stop by Teen Tech Time to fulfill all your technological needs! Get extra laptop time, play a game or just hang out!  June 8th 2:30pm  Ages: 12 to 18.

Introducing for the first time: Teen Club on Wednesday June 15th join in on the fun. Your two favorite Teen programs have now combined into one. Teen Art and Anime Club have combined and added so many more ways to have fun at your Library!  For ages 12-18 at 2:30pm.

Make Music NY presents The Ground is Lava on June 21st at 3:30pm. Highly melodic, extremely energetic indie-punk-emo 3-piece band from Brunswick, Ohio. TGIL is a super fun emo band from Ohio with lyrics as quick and witty as their guitar lines.  Witty Witty Bang Bang I say. For All ages!

For Adults:

On June 24th at 2:30pm join in on the Adult Social, come with your friends and enjoy listening to oldies music, playing board games and meeting new friends.  For ages 50+.

Take a Voyage to the Ocean Planet on June 25th at 2:30pm.  Join a National Park Ranger for a fantastic photo tour of some of the most spectacular national parks of America, as well as some lesser known gems.  For age 13 and older.

New Dorp doesn't just have English Book Discussion but Spanish one as well! Speak or read Spanish? Why don't you pick up a copy of the book and join in the Spanish Book Discussion at your library!  El cojo y el loco by Jaime Bayly meeting at 4:30pm on June 25th!
