Decoration in the Age of Napoleon Redux
Are you going to New England this holiday season? If you liked the NYPL exhibition, “Decoration in the Age of Napoleon: Empire Elegance Versus Regency Refinement,” which ran from September 2004 to May 2005, then head straightaway to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. There, you will see the finest examples of Empire Style decorative arts, many of them objects nver shown outside France before. The exhibition in question is “Symbols of Power: Napoleon and the Art of the Empire Style, 1800-1815,” and if you need further convincing, check out the splendid exhibition catalogue in the Art Division of the same title (JQG 07-877). Hurry though, for the exhibition only runs through January 27, 2008. Then you’d have to hop a jet for Paris, where its final stand is at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, April 2 - October 5, 2008.
Just remember that the euro is very high against the dollar right now!
