Conversations from the Cullman Center: Paul La Farge and Lev Grossman

Paul La Farge discusses his new novel, The Night Ocean—about a man who becomes obsessed with the horror-fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft, and then mysteriously disappears—with Lev Grossman.

Paul La Farge is the author of the novels Luminous Airplanes; Haussmann, or the Distinction; and The Artist of the Missing, as well as a book of imaginary dreams called The Facts of Winter.  A recipient of the Bard Fiction Prize and of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts, La Farge worked on The Night Ocean while he was a fellow at the Cullman Center in 2013-14.

Lev Grossman, a senior writer and book critic at Time magazine, is the author of the novels Codex, Warp, and the bestselling Magicians trilogy. His essays and criticism have appeared in The Believer, The Village Voice, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Salon, Slate, Wired, and many other publications.
