Renowned journalist Simon Winchester studied geology at Oxford and has written for Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic, and more. He is the author of The Professor and the Madman, The Map That Changed the World, and many other titles. His latest book, The Man Who Loved China, brings to life the extraordinary story of Joseph Needham, the legendary historian who in the first half of the 20th century introduced centuries of Chinese innovation to the West, and who would eventually become a Red Scare target. Mr. Winchester discusses Needham's exploration of the East and its implications on China's place as a superpower today.
