The New York Public Library's Bookmobile service provides on-the-go access to library materials to our patrons.

The NYPL Bookmobile service provides access to library services in neighborhoods where the local branch is temporarily closed for renovation, and makes stops at community events and local partner organizations. Whether on the move or at an event, our Bookmobile service supports the Library's mission to enhance access to knowledge and information across our city. What’s more, it's proof that reading takes you places!

Bookmobile Service

At our Bookmobiles, you can:

  • Sign up for a library card.
  • Browse a small collection of books for people of all ages.
  • Speak with a librarian to get reading recommendations, reference services, and more.
  • Return and renew books.
  • Manage your account. (Though please note, fees cannot be settled at the Bookmobiles.)

Bronx

Bookmobile service is typically available near the following locations in the Bronx. For more information on service in the Bronx, call 917-226-3793.

  • Mondays, 11 AM–4 PM: 162nd St and Grand Concourse, alongside Joyce Kilmer Park
  • Tuesdays, 11 AM–4 PM: Southern Boulevard and Tiffany St.
  • Wednesdays, 11 AM–4 PM: Southern Boulevard and Tiffany St.
  • Thursdays, 11 AM–4 PM: 162nd St and Grand Concourse, alongside Joyce Kilmer Park
  • Every other Friday,  11 AM–4 PM: E 180th St and Honeywell Ave.
     

Manhattan

Bookmobile service is resuming as of September 4th, 2024 and will be available near the following locations in Manhattan. For more information on service in Manhattan, call 347-330-7297.

  • Mondays, 11 AM–3:30 PM: W 24th St at 7th Avenue
  • Tuesdays, 11 AM–3:30 PM: 128 Pitt Street, between Stanton and E Houston.
  • Wednesdays, 11 AM–4 PM: 90 Bennett Avenue between W 184th & W 186th St.
  • Thursdays, 11 AM–4 PM: 517 E 117th st at East River Plaza 
  • Every other Friday,  11 AM–4 PM:  W 179th st and Audubon Avenue 

 

Staten Island

Bookmobile service is available on the following dates, times, and locations in Staten Island. Please note: schedules are tentative and subject to change. Check the NYPL Bookmobile Twitter (@nyplbookmobile) feed for date, time, and location updates, or call 347-330-0917.

  • Tuesday, 9/17, 11a-4p: Stop & Shop (1351 Forest Avenue)
  • Wednesday, 9/18, 11a-4p: Levy Playground (Jewett Ave. & Castleton Ave.)
  • Thursday, 9/19, 11a-4p: PS 21 (Hooker Place)
  • Friday, 9/20, 11a-4p: Faber Park (Richmond Terrace)
