Lapidus Center Fellowships
The Lapidus Center for the Historical Analysis of Transatlantic Slavery at NYPL's Schomburg Center offers long- and short-term fellowships to assist scholars whose research on transatlantic slavery can benefit from extended access to the Schomburg Center's resources. Fellows receive access to the Center's collections, opportunities to disseminate their work across Library channels, and monetary support.
See a summary of Lapidus Center Fellowships below, and visit the Lapidus Center page for the latest information on fellowship application cycles and to learn more about the Center.
Long-Term Fellowships
The Lapidus residency program is designed to 1) encourage research and writing on the slave trade, slavery, and anti-slavery in the Atlantic world, 2) promote and facilitate interaction among the participants including fellows funded by other sources, and 3) facilitate the dissemination of the researchers' findings through lectures, publications, and the ongoing Schomburg Center Colloquium and Seminar Series. Applicants must indicate in their proposal how they propose to use the resources of the Schomburg Center as well as those of other research units of The New York Public Library to further their research.
Short-Term Fellowships
The Lapidus Center’s short-term fellowships assist researchers in gaining access to collection material at the Schomburg Center not readily available elsewhere. Fellowships are awarded for continuous periods of up to three consecutive months at the Center with a stipend of $2,000 per month.
