Close-Ups in The Vincent Astor Gallery

Make - Up

Make-up has enabled transformation in many cultures throughout time. Examples of process include video footage of Rudolf Nureyev methodically distorting his features to portray Petrouchka to Blatas' painting of Joel Grey becoming The Emcee. Illustrations of recognizable finished made-up faces range from Kabuki to the horror film characterizations of Lon Chaney to the invented species that populate Star Trek: Voyager and Deep Space Nine.
