Retailers
• i am a jewelry designer and im interested in selling my merchandise in stores even though what i hope to do is have my own store. until then how do i know whats a good precent to give the store thats allowing me to sell in there shops. should i get receipets from each purchase? and it is likely that they will try to stiff me on purchases, ex. i price earrings at 210 and they charge 325 and keep the xtra off the top? should you draw up an agreement with them that they have to sign to protect you and your merchandise?

New York Taxes
• i've started selling my merchandise at a nyc market and want to sell at some different places and i will need a tax ID #. Besides allowing me to sell things in NY what else does the tax ID # mean? Does this mean that the IRS can say that I have to pay them part of the money that I make at this market? Is it a good idea to do this to gain experience in dealing with taxes?

• In one of your responses, you recommended "look up all RN #'s found on all imported goods to find out which factory they were made in." How do I do this? Ive searched through http://www.ftc.gov/ and can't find how to research this further.

• In your seminar, you speak of "retail accountant" and "retail lawyer." What's the best way for me to go about finding each(I don't see them listed in the yellow pages) and how do I know what I should be charged for and what's a fair fee. To make it easy on myself-and easier for you to answer-should I set up a consultation(free?)with both and allow them to answer all of my questions and should I have some knowledge of what I want/need from each of them, so they won't take advantage of me.

Retail experience
• I am hoping to open a boutique in the Atlanta area next fall. I have a heavy background in finance and limited background in retail. As a matter of fact my last retail position was when I was in college. I have been told that I should work in a retail store to gain more of the experience, but between my full-time job now that may be an impossibility. I will be taking the Retail 101 class you are having in Atlanta in October. What additional ways can I compensate for my lack of retail experience?
