NYC Small Business Resource Center

Information about this site

In 1997 staff at the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce created the New York Small Business Resource Center (SBRC) to assist small businesses. The New York Public Library’s Science, Industry and Business Library took over the website in 2001 and expanded and redesigned the site. In 2002, the New York City Council, impressed by the website content, sought permission to use the online Programs Locator (now the Services Directory) as the basis for their print publication, Resource Guide to Small Business Development in the Five Boroughs. In 2003, The Commerce Department Technology Opportunities Program awarded the Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) a three year grant to expand the website with additional features, designed to build a virtual small business community. The expanded website includes these features:

Services Directory- Organizations that provide services to both established small businesses and start-ups.
Business Owner’s Manual- A guide to starting and running a small business in New York.
Events- A calendar of metro area small business seminars, training sessions and meetings.
Videos- Small business seminars videotaped for web presentation, viewable at any time.
Forum- Online forums in small business topics, moderated by business experts.
Ask a Question- E-mail reference service on small business.
FAQ- Frequently asked questions about the NYC small business environment.
