HOME DISCUSSION GLOSSARY

Welcome to Prospecting for Business Information, the new online course developed by The New York Public Library, Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) and Thirteen/WNET New York. Whether you are searching for a new job, looking for a company to invest in, or trying to find out what the competition is for your small business, this course can help you learn how to find the information you need.

The course is organized into five sections, listed below. Each section will take about 30 minutes to work through, and we suggest that you follow the sections in order. The course introduces various research tools. Most of these resources are available to you at your local public library or are fee based for private use.

Electronic databases are available in most public libraries, and may even be available to you from home. Check with your local public library to see what databases they have, and to learn how to access them. The resources section includes several key databases to look for.

You will be able to work at your own pace, and you can always go back to a section that you have already completed.

Go to the help page if you have any questions about using this course.
