Computers for Public Use

Computers and Library Catalogs for public use are available on the street level, in the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Circulating Library and Reading Room, on the lower level, in the McGraw Information Services Center (OPAC Catalogs), and in the Elizabeth and Felix Rohatyn Electronic Information Center. The Rohatyn Center provides access to over 150 licensed information databases. Most databases in the EIC are available without any reservations or sign up required. Internet access is provided mainly on the street level in the Cullman Reading room, although a limited number of internet pcs are on the lower level in the Research Library's Rohatyn EIC. Use SIBL's pc reservations stations on the street level in the Cullman Room to reserve a workstation for internet or word processing. A New York Public Library card is required, and users are limited to one session per day.

The Library allocates computers for access to information through licensed databases, library catalogs and selected websites. Computers designated for Internet and/or word processing use are provided separately, and require reservations with time limits. See the Library's Policy on Public Use of the Internet for questions about this policy and filtering. Library users must observe copyright and other restrictions or regulations as posted on the library's website or library licensed databases.

Library users may not install or run software on computers designated for licensed databases and catalogs use only. Users may not download or use unauthorized software on library computers. Hacking and otherwise attempting to bypass library menus and library proxy servers is strictly prohibited. Library users found violating this policy may lose their library privileges.
