Anything you want do on trumpet is in the Arbon's book somewhere, but you have to know where to look for it. By then I knew where to look for anything and if ever I had anything that I was thinking about, I looked in the Auburn book. I also by now had a system that I had as much instrumental technique as I was going to get. I could play the instrument technically, but the idea is to be able to play something different on the instrument musically. So I would look in the book and find other exercises and then insert those exercises in my solos to do things, [demonstrates vocally] and just stick in somewhere 'cause it sound good.
