	The Schomburg Legacy: Documenting the

Global Black Experience for the 21st Century,

a 70th Anniversary commemoration exhibition was

presented in three venues at the Schomburg

Center--the Exhibition Hall, the Latimer Edison

Gallery and the American Negro Theater.  It

presents a comprehensive survey of the development

of the Center's collections since the death of

Arturo Alfonso Schomburg (1938) and explores the

Center's role as the premier public research

library in the world devoted to documenting and

preserving the histories and cultures of people of

African descent worldwide.



	The onsite exhibition was made possible by

The Coca-Cola Foundation, AT&T, Philip Morris

Companies Inc., 98.7 KISS-FM, and gifts in honor

of Andrew Heiskell from Mr. and  Mrs. Ralph E.

Hansmann and from Mr. and Mrs. Sol Neil Corbin.

The onsite exhibition was also supported with

public funds from the Cultural Challenge Program

of the New York City Department of Cultural

Affairs, the City of New York, the State of New

York, the Office of the Borough President of

Manhattan and the New York State Black and Puerto

Rican Legislative Caucus.
