<p>Pearl Mary Teresa Richards Craigie was an Anglo-American novelist, dramatist and lecturer. She wrote under the pseudonym John Oliver Hobbes.</p>

<head>Scope and Content Note</head>
<p>This is a synthetic collection consisting of manuscripts, typescripts, correspondence by and about the author, notebooks for 1891 and 1892, and legal documents. The manuscripts and typescripts consist of plays, novels, and portions thereof, as well as a financial receipt for money paid to Pearl Mary Teresa Richards Craigie's father, John Morgan Richards, by the actor's agent Elisabeth Marbury. The correspondence consists of letters from the author, dating from 1877 to 1906, to her son John Craigie, Edmund William Gosse, Henry Higgs, Thomas Werner Laurie, her parents Laura Hortense and John Morgan Richards, Theodore Watts-Dunton, the literary agency T. Fisher Unwin, and others, as well as letters relating to the author, dating from 1897 to 1933, between various correspondents, including Sir Edmund Gosse, John Morgan Richards, Sir Owen Seaman, Clement King Shorter, Charles Whibley, T. Fisher Unwin, and others.</p>
