<head>Scope and Content Note</head>
<p>This is a synthetic collection consisting of mansucripts, a typescript, correspondence, financial and legal documents, and a portrait photograph. The manuscripts consist of a story by the author and an article by Andrew Lang about him. The typescript is the preface to his "Nada the Lily." The correspondence consists of letters by the author, dating from 1885 to 1920, to Peter Fenelon Collier, William Hooker Gillette, Harold Massingham, Richard C. White, William Arthur Wills, the publishing firm of Cassell &amp; Co., the literary agency A. P. Watt and Son, and others, as well as letters relating to the author, dating from 1884 to 1914, between various correspondents, including Spencer C. Blackett, William Hooker Gillette, Charles James Longman, A. P. Watt and Son, and others. There are letters written to the author from James F. Burrill, Cassell &amp; Co., Ltd., Harper &amp; Bros., John Cordy Jeaffreson, the Redpath Lyceum Bureau, Robert Pearsall Smith, A. P. Watt &amp; Son, William Arthur Wills, and others dating from 1879-1895.</p>
