Eugene O’Neill’s Mourning Becomes Electra was a re-telling of the Oresteia, setting the plays of Clytemnestra, Electra and Orestes in New England, following the Civil War. The Theatre Guild’s promotional campaign featured the image of Lavinia (Electra) and Christine (Clytemnestra), based on a photograph by Florence Vandamm.
