A panel of choreographers, scientists and scholars will follow up on an online dialogue held in the week leading up to the convening
11:00am Preview of Dance Division plan
Library staff will present and review the Dance Division’s plan for the future

Research Presentations (South Court Auditorium)

1: Searching for dance
Dr. Gary Marchionini, Director of The Open Video Project at UNC Chapel Hill, will discuss his work in moving image searchability, and technologies being developed to enable users of large digital archives to more quickly and easily scan and find images

2: The future of copyright?
Mia Garlick, Legal Counsel of Creative Commons, will discuss the online organization’s groundbreaking copyright licensing system for digital works, which allows artists safety and flexibility in protecting and making their creative work available for public viewing, sharing, and collaboration

3: Where dance meets advanced digital research
Dr. David Forsyth, Computer Science Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, will discuss recent research in content-based image retrieval, potentially a huge advance from text-based search engines when it comes to moving images, especially dance

2:45pm Breakout sessions: Feedback on the Library’s plan (Trustees Room/Berger Forum/South Court Auditorium)
The convening will break into three groups to give facilitated feedback on the Library’s plan, informed by the research presentations
