E-mail Reference Policy

Staff of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts respond to requests about Library holdings and for information on a subject within an area of the Library's responsibility that can be quickly answered.

Please keep in mind that specific answers, depending on the nature of your question, might not always be possible via e-mail. You may also need to visit the Library for the Performing Arts, your local library, or one of the other New York Public Library research centers or branches. If you need more than a quick answer (in other words, your question will involve extensive research), the library offers a fee-based research service through NYPL Express.
Requests for document delivery, including copies of articles, are forwarded to NYPL Express. Requests for photographic reproduction or reels of microfilm are forwarded to Photographic Services & Permissions.

Current and retrospective books and periodicals can be found by searching the Research Libraries' online public catalog, CATNYP.

The Staff of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts cannot undertake to appraise or evaluate books or art objects, or do genealogical or picture research identifying the source or ownership of an image or work of art. Readers are urged to come into the Library to use our resources and expertise.
