The Celeste Bartos Education Center includes two state-of-the-art classrooms, a 177-seat Auditorium, and a Visitor’s Theater where a 12-minute film, ‘The New York Public Library: A Place for Discovery’ is shown on the hour and half hour. The Auditorium, with a small stage, audio/visual facilities, and Internet connections is suitable for web casting. As well as LIVE from NYPL programs, it is used for public lectures, symposia, and other programs. The Auditorium is also available for rentals.

Each year the Celeste Bartos Education Center creates two theme-based public programs in conjunction with major exhibitions mounted in The Humanities and Social Sciences Library. These fall/winter and spring/summer programs consist of a series of walk-in classes and curatorial talks which are designed to reveal and make accessible the collections, services, and staff expertise of The Research Libraries.

Curatorial Talks
In both of our annual series, these exhibition-themed talks are presented by collection curators or guest lecturers. All are free and last one hour.

Classes
Twice a year we introduce new classes and continue to offer proven favorites. All are taught by staff subject specialists and highlight specific research strategies. Classes are free, hands-on, and last an hour.

Teaching Resources
The Center partners with the faculties of local colleges and universities to create specialized library orientation and instruction sessions for visiting classes. For more information see our Information for Faculty Website.

Services include customized tours for college and university groups and classes tailored to address specific topics or resources. These visits are scheduled in advance to allow staff adequate preparation time. Annually each October, the Bartos Education Center hosts an evening reception for graduate students and faculty. This year’s reception will unite scholars and friends who have utilized the collections for their research, to be part of a panel discussion.
