Basic Information Level Collections

Subjects collected at the Basic Information Level (B) are intended to provide introductory material, sufficient to define a subject and to indicate lines of further study and research which could be accomplished elsewhere. Basic reference materials (grammars, dictionaries, some texts, bibliographic aids, encyclopedias) are provided, as well as a limited number of periodicals and monographs. Also, all Asian and Middle Eastern Division Sections have grammars and dictionaries for many lesser known languages not specifically mentioned here. The Basic Information Level also includes a large number of current newspapers, in English and many Oriental languages. This category is intended primarily for undergraduates, the general public seeking basic information, and for people who do not have extensive research interests or expertise in the field.
