Humanities and Social Sciences Library > Collections & Reading Rooms > Map Division New York City Maps![]() Sheet maps and atlases document the growing and changing city. The Map Division's collections from the 1600s to the present are outstanding. The collection also includes property maps of New York City, especially Bromley, Hyde, Perris, REDI, Robinson, and Sanborn maps at the block and lot level from the 1850s to the present. Property evaluation and ownership data for all five boroughs is available on microfiche. Topographic maps of New York City are available through the U.S. Geological Survey quadrangles, Borough Topographical Surveys, 1969 Plan for New York City contour maps, 1954 borough contour maps, and the Bien Atlas sheets of 1891. Nautical charts of New York Harbor include the British "Atlantic Neptune" charts from the late 1700s, Coast Survey and Coast & Geodetic Survey charts from the 1840s-1970s, N.O.S. charts from the 1970s to the present, and miscellaneous commercial charts and maps. The New York City shoreline, landfill, and wetlands are documented in the Viele water map of 1874 showing underground streams and wetlands for Manhattan and the West Bronx, as well as the nautical and topographic sheets as described above. The U.S.G.S. Geologic Folio of 1903, the New York State Geology of 1970, the Lower Hudson sheet and Baskerville, NYC of 1995 show the geology of New York City. |
