Other Map Resources at NYPL

The New York Public Library collections date from the mid-nineteenth century, when the Astor and Lenox libraries were established. Much of those two collections were built on purchases from even older libraries and map dealers in Europe. Therefore, maps may be found in various collections throughout the NYPL Research Libraries, not just in the Map Division. Some antiquarian maps and atlases, therefore, may be found in the Dictionary Catalog in addition to the Map Division catalog in Room 117, for materials in the Rare Books Division, the Manuscripts and Archives Division, the Print Collection. In addition, NYPL's Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) holds census tract maps, and the U.S. History, Local History and Genealogy Division contains much complementary material on New York City history, including City directories, building photographs arranged by street name, and City guidebooks.
