Recovery Movement

Using the Catalogs

General instructions for locating materials are given in How Do I Find a Book?. The following information is specific to the topic at hand.

The printed Dictionary Catalog lists all items cataloged up until 1972, and is arranged alphabetically by author and subject. This research guide, however, will focus on those terms used for searching CATNYP, the computerized catalog listing materials added to the collection from 1972 to the present, since the vast majority of books written in this field appeared after 1972.

The basic subject headings for the recovery movement in CATNYP include:

    Adult children
    Alcoholism
    Alcoholics Anonymous
    Co-dependence (psychology)
    Compulsive behavior
    Incest
    Intimacy (psychology)
    Men--psychology
    Self-actualization (psychology)
    Self-help groups
    Twelve step
    Women-psychology

Further subject headings for CATNYP can be found by using the Library of Congress Subject Headings volumes found near the CATNYP terminals in Room 315. Cross references, as well as broader, narrower or related terms, are provided by this tool. Searching for works by a particular author can, of course, be achieved by performing an author search on CATNYP.
