Requesting MaterialsSources for book review citations will provide the names and dates of periodicals in which the reviews appear. To obtain the call numbers of the appropriate periodicals, first check A Selected List of Frequently Requested Periodicals, located in the Main Reading Room and in the Public Catalog Room. If the periodical in question is not found in this catalog, check the 800-volume Dictionary Catalog of the Research Libraries of the New York Public Library, representing materials acquired before 1972, and CATNYP, the computer catalog of materials acquired since 1972. After determining the call number for the periodical, complete a blue and white call slip with the title of the periodical, the date of the article, and the call number. Do not include the title of the article or its author. Electronic ResourcesResearchers may also consult various electronic databases, which normally include book reviews among the materials indexed. The Book Review Digest is the most comprehensive of these electronic resources; it may be supplemented by the more specialized data bases which treat various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. A librarian can assist you in utilizing these reference sources.
