In CLAUDETTE COLVIN: TWICE TOWARD JUSTICE (Published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux in 2009) National Book Award finalist Phillip Hoose introduces Claudette Colvin, a crucial figure in America’s civil rights movement whose bravery paved the way for the end of bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama. This event is present in conjunction with the Schomburg Center’s current exhibitions: Courage: The Vision to End Segregation, the Guts to Fight for It and Courage: The Black New York Struggle for Quality Education.
