Sir Peter Shaffer on Oscar Wilde

Peter Shaffer

When he first came to the United States, Sir Peter Shaffer worked for The New York Public Library. On November 30, 2000, the centennial of the death of Oscar Wilde, Sir Peter talked about his time at the Library and his encounter with the four-act manuscript of Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. The excerpts below are taken from that program, which was part of the series A Man of Some Importance: Oscar Wilde and the Performing Arts.
