Basic Library Skills
After Class Practice on E-Resources New to You
Description: Bring your questions about searching electronic resources at SIBL. This is an opportunity for hands-on practice with a librarian for research assistance.

Business Research: Databases from Home thru NYPL
Description: Did you know about two great business databases with special content that is available with your Library Card from the NYPL website? Use them to keep current, explore new industries and careers, and prepare for interviews. Content includes specialized trade & business journals, articles on trends and company news, company profiles, industry surveys & snapshots, market research in Datamonitor Reports and articles, investment analyst reports, company financials, rankings, and more! Class will highlight searching, and unique features.

Directories: Using Them to Find Companies and People
Description: Hands-on training in the use of electronic directories. Also covers tips for compiling mailing lists.
Prerequisite: This class requires some basic mouse and keyboard skills.

Description: This class covers the basics of searching the research libraries catalog, CATNYP and the circulating online catalog, LEO. Provides hands-on instruction.
Prerequisite: Attendees should be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Description: Spotlight on...Free News & Journals From Home via 15+ EBSCOhost Databases: An introduction on searching more than 15 full-text news and journal databases, available from your Home or Office via the Internet with an NYPL Library Card. Class will explore special features and the array of subject areas and publications.

NYPL's New Catalog: Features & Searching
Description: NYPL's new catalog combines the LEO and CATNYP catalogs into one catalog to search for books, DVD's, journal titles, government publications, and other resources. This class will take you on a tour of the new catalog's features, and hands-on searching to explore strategies to help you find the library materials you need.

Resume Lab: Assistance with Creating, Formatting, Saving, Printing & Uploading
Description: Bring a written draft of your resume, and a USB drive for saving and printing, and get started! This is a supervised lab for you to create, and save, your resume in Microsoft Word. Assistance with resume formatting, proofreading, saving, printing and uploading resumes will be available during the lab. Did you know you have access to thousands of articles published in over a thousand science and technology journals from your own Home computer with your NYPL library card? This class is an introduction to finding science and technology news and journals using NYPL databases that you connect to from your Home computer with your library card. Class will explore special features and the array of subject areas and publications. You can read current research on new energy sources, the environment, health, computer technologies, biology, medicine, astronomy, physics, psychology, engineering, and much more!
