NYPL Website Highlights

The New York Public Library's newly expanded website at http://www.nypl.org includes some 3,000 pages of information and resources. Some of these are outlined below.

Electronic Resources
A variety of online databases, accessible with a valid New York Public Library card. They include:

ProQuest Direct Full text of more than 1,400 general and business periodicals and newspapers; indexes and abstracts of more than 3,300 titles.
¡Informe! (Revistas en Español) (Magazines in Spanish) Current news and events, business reports, articles on health and many other subjects, from the most popular Hispanic magazines, in Spanish.
Books in Print Citations for more than 2.8 million titles that are in print, out of print, and soon to be published.
Business and Company ASAP Articles (1994-present) on finance, acquisitions and mergers, international trade, money management, new technologies and products, local and regional business trends, investments, and banking.
TRAIN An information and referral resource with descriptions of programs related to job preparation, educational and vocational training, child care, Head Start and family day care networks, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment services.
Health Reference Center A resource covering a broad array of topics relating to consumer health and wellness, with citations, abstracts, and selected full-text articles.
NOAH (New York Online Access to Health) A guide in English and Spanish focusing on 14 main health topics: aging, AIDS, alternative medicine, cancer, diabetes, healthy living, heart disease and stroke, mental health, nutrition, personal health, pregnancy, sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, and tuberculosis. Available without an NYPL library card.

Ebsco Host offers access to magazines for young readers
Contemporary Authors provides information on a wide range of modern authors
Contemporary Literary Criticism (CLC) profiles authors, poets, scriptwriters, and other creative writers
Dictionary of Literary Biography (DLB) documents the lives and careers of authors from all eras and genres
Gale Directory of Associations & Ready Reference Shelf provides integrated access to more than 250,000 entries from the databases of 13 of Gale Research's most popular reference directories.

NYPL Express
The New York Public Library's fee-based information and document delivery service provides immediate access to The Research Libraries' comprehensive collections. New York Public Library information specialists can answer research queries or supply needed documents.

NYPL Online Bookstore
Features books and authors selected by NYPL librarians and curators as especially significant or interesting. As an additional service for our users, books may be purchased electronically via BarnesandNoble.com. A portion of each sale through BarnesandNoble.com, when entered from NYPL's Online Bookstore, contributes to the support of The New York Public Library. "On-Lion" for Kids
A special area for children, created by NYPL's children's specialists, with recommended reading, events listings, online children's magazines, a fun and games section, and more.

Search the Internet
Gives quick access to many of the most popular keyword search engines on the web, plus an Internet resource guide assembled by subject by New York Public Library staff. Some of these topics are AIDS, children's resources, government, music, and women's studies.

Teen Link
The NYPL site specifically for teenagers. Features the latest reading recommendations from the Library's publication Books for the Teen Age, library staff-selected Internet sites of interest to teens, a list of city help hotlines, and ÒWordsmiths,Ó an online poetry publication to which young adults can submit their own works.
