Statement On Center for an Urban Future Report, "Re-Envisioning New York's Branch Libraries"

Below is a statement from New York Public Library President Tony Marx on the report,"Re-Imagining New York's Branch Libraries," released on Sept. 15, 2014 by The Center for an Urban Future.

"Libraries lift individuals and communities, but this critical work can only happen if our buildings receive adequate infrastructure support, which, as this timely report points out, hasn't happened over the past decades. The path forward is very clear. Joint leadership from library and city leaders can make significant progress -- and we've already seen the curve begin to bend.  This year's budget increased overall library funding for the first time since 2008 and we are encouraged by the conversations we have had and continue to have with our public officials about the capital needs of library buildings."
