The New York Public Library Aguilar Branch in Harlem Reopens Following Improvements

JUNE 15 - The New York Public Library’s Aguilar branch in East Harlem will reopen June 15. The Library received new equipment needed for the heating and cooling of the library – including air conditioning units, hot water pumps, as well as a new, web-based temperature control system. The existing fire stairs were also refurbished and a new fire detection and alarm system was installed.  The branch closed late last year to facilitate the needed upgrades.

Originally founded in 1886, the Aguilar Library became part of The New York Public Library system in 1905. The more than a century-old building is one of NYPL’s 33 Carnegie-funded branches. Aguilar Library has an extensive collection of Spanish-language materials and also features an Adult Learning Center that holds ESOL classes, as well as literacy classes.
