JAN. 23, 2013 - The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted yesterday 6 - 2 in favor of updates to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, allowing The New York Public Library to continue efforts to re-establish the  iconic building into a multi-purpose library, used by the public and scholars alike.

"We are deeply appreciative to the Landmarks Preservation Commission for its thoughtful analysis and for its approval, which allows the Central Library Plan to move forward," said NYPL President Tony Marx." The Schwarzman Building is a treasure for all of New York City; a treasure that provides essential services to many New Yorkers. Today's approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission will ensure that this treasure continues to serve New York City, to grow and evolve for future generations."

Today's decision by the Landmarks Preservation Commission follows last week's vote in support of the exterior updates and the Central Library Plan overall by Community Board 5.
