Midtown Manhattan's Community Board 5 Votes To "Strongly Support" the NYPL's Central Library Plan

At a public meeting on Jan. 17, Community Board 5 in midtown Manhattan voted to "strongly support" the NYPL's Central Library Plan, with 33 of 36 members in favor (1 opposed, 1 abstained, and 1 not entitled). The same number of board members also voted to approve proposed changes in the Plan that fall under the Landmarks Preservation Law. Those changes will now go before the Landmarks Preservation Commission for approval on Jan. 22.

"We are gratified that Community Board 5, which represents the people of midtown Manhattan and many of our patrons, appreciated the strong benefits of the Central Library Plan, and voted overwhelmingly to support it," said NYPL President Tony Marx, who spoke at the Jan. 17 meeting. "The Board took the time to truly understand the plan, asking questions and listening to the public, and we feel it made a very important decision for the people of this city."
