Meet Anthony Marx
Dr. Anthony Marx
Today, we welcome NYPL's new President and CEO, Dr. Anthony W. Marx. Dr. Marx comes from Amherst College, where, as President from 2003 to 2011, he earned recognition for his passionate promotion of socioeconomic diversity and accessibility to higher education for lower-income students. He is eager to lead the Library, "one of a very few institutions that unite the world of advanced scholarship and the world of universal education." Dr. Marx attended Wesleyan and Yale and received his PhD from Princeton's Department of Politics. Before assuming his position at Amherst, he was a professor and then director of undergraduate studies of political science at Columbia University. A native New Yorker and Mets fan, he attended P.S. 98 and the Bronx High School of Science; he spent many hours after school at his neighborhood Inwood Library.
