In order to better serve New Yorkers, the NYPL is improving infrastructure at its Jefferson Market location. The branch will close on Monday, April 11 and reopen on Monday, May 23.
Jefferson Market, located in Greenwich Village, is the Library’s oldest building, constructed in 1877 as a courthouse. The ornamental, architecturally-significant structure will undergo façade restoration, plaster repairs, cleaning, brick replacement and window replacement.
There will be partial closures within Jefferson Market after May 23 – the adult reading room will be closed on Monday, May 23 and reopen on Tuesday, July 5, and the basement reference room will close on Tuesday, July 5 and reopen on Monday, August 1.
Funding for the $7.9 million project was provided by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and private donors.
While construction is being done, patrons of Jefferson Market can use the Library’s Mulberry Street location at 10 Jersey Street (off Mulberry Street) or its Muhlenberg location at 209 West 23rd Street (near Seventh Avenue). For additional information, patrons can call 917-ASK-NYPL (917-275-6975).
The NYPL thanks New Yorkers for their cooperation during these important improvements.
