The New York Public Library and Vault.com Help New Yorkers Jumpstart their Job Search With Free "Back to Work" Event
“New Yorkers are facing a difficult time during this economic crisis, and many have found their way to The New York Public Library to take advantage of the countless free job resources we have available to our patrons. Our association with Vault.comand ‘Back to Work’ is just one of the many ways we are working to help lift the residents of this great City back on their feet,” said John Ganly, Assistant Director for Science, Industry and Business Library Collections.
“In today’s challenging job marketplace, the best thing any job seeker can do is to have a well-planned job search strategy, including an in-depth knowledge of their target industry, top companies, and the specific skill set required for their desired jobs. Doing your research and presenting yourself accordingly is the best way to increase your chances of getting that offer,” said Erik Sorenson, Vault CEO. “Together, Vault and the New York Public Library are opening our doors to support unemployed New York professionals by providing the insight, expertise and information that they need to develop an effective job search strategy and land their next job.”

As a centerpiece of the day, a team of more than 20 Vault.com career coaches will provide free “speed coaching” sessions for job seekers. These 20-minute, one-on-one discussions will provide individualized career counseling and/or expert resume review and advice. The sessions will help unemployed professionals develop the right job search strategy for them -- whether they are continuing their career path, changing industries, or just starting out.
The event schedule is designed to be personalized, with sessions running concurrently throughout the day. Individuals will walk away with valuable job search tools and advice -- regardless of whether they attend one 20-minute demonstration or the full schedule of events. Workshop topics include:

· Resume Writing for Professionals
· Networking into the Hidden Job Market
· Building Your Job Search Strategy
· Ace Your Interview
· Using Your Online Career Library
Workshops will take place on a rotating schedule from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendance is first come, first served. Registration is strongly recommended for the Vault “Speed Coaching” sessions. Time slots are available every half hour between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Interested New Yorkers can email email@example.com with their time preference(s) in order to schedule a 20-minute personalized session. “Back to Work: Jumpstart Your Job Search” is just one of the many efforts by The New York Public Library to help residents deal with the economic uncertainty of 2009. The NYPL also provides career counseling, resume writing workshops, job databases and computer classes, among other job readiness programs, at branches throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and The Bronx. In addition, The Bronx Library Center, at 310 East Kingsbridge Road; The Mid-Manhattan Library’s Job Information Center, at 455 Fifth Avenue and 40th Street; and SIBL, at 188 Madison Avenue, offer specialized services for those looking to get back into the workforce, switch careers, or start a new business.
