Literary Magazine Editors Introducing Emerging Writers at The New York Public Library

The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses [clmp] and The New York Public Library present Periodically Speaking, a reading series providing a major venue for emerging writers to present their work while emphasizing the diversity of America’s literary magazines and the magazine collections of The New York Public Library. Each event presents writers from three influential literary magazines—one poet, one fiction writer, one nonfiction writer—introduced by their editors.

Stone Canoe
Stone Canoe, a new journal of poetry, prose, and visual arts from Upstate New York, is published annually by Syracuse University. In doing so, the journal supports the university’s ongoing efforts to nurture creative community partnerships and seeks to promote a greater awareness of the cultural and intellectual richness that characterizes life in the region. The debut issue received an “IPPY” medal and an award of excellence from the University Continuing Education Association.
Editor Robert M. Colley introduces fiction writer Daniel Torday.       

New England Review
Founded in 1978, New England Review, a publication of Middlebury College, has for more than twenty-five years kept its readers in touch with the imaginative adventures of the world’s most celebrated authors, while maintaining its commitment to new writers just emerging into prominence.                       
Editor Stephen Donadio introduces poet Patrick Phillips.                 

VERBATIM: The Language Quarterly
Going by the motto “Language and linguistics for the layperson since 1974,” VERBATIM explores eclectic language topics—from the Latin roots of the vocabulary of Harry Potter to the difficulty of choosing the right pronouns when speaking Thai—with humor.               
Editor Erin McKean introduces nonfiction writer Daniel Krieger.
